Mahle’s Restaurant

http://www.mahlesrestaurant.com My husband and I have been taking friends and family to this fine restaurant for over 20 years and have never had a bad meal. After the recent pandemic lock-down was lifted, we phoned and made a family reservation for 5 people. They have never had a gluten-free menu; however, for the past 16 years since my celiac disease diagnosis, I have eaten there many times with no problems. Wait staff for this recent visit wore masks and were as helpful as ever – it was a wonderful experience, especially in these difficult times, and we highly recommend this fine establishment. P.S. My favorite meal is prime rib with grilled scampi and baked potato – but I have also had their surf and turf, petite filet steak and lobster.

This is a nice, simple restaurant with a menu limited primarily to chicken (wings or very meaty tenders/strips) and go-withs for the chicken. Sauces are served on the side and almost all of them are gluten-free. Staff is very knowledgeable re gluten-free, too. Sides include things like potato fries, cauliflower and cheese (the gluten-free version of ‘macaroni and cheese’) and garlic Brussels sprouts. Portions were ample and we took some home, too. Food is ordered at the front, you then find a seat yourself, a server takes

your drink orders. Then you are called to pick up your food from the bar when it is ready. Suggest you arrive hungry and enjoy!

Myself, my husband and another friend ate lunch here Sept. 28. As it was a nice day we ate outside, with a lovely river view, rose bushes in bloom yet and very pleasant overall. I was presented with a laminated gluten-free menu that contained a nice selection. Most sandwiches were available gluten-free with lettuce replacing the usual bun, which was fine. Service was very good and my meal (Cuban type sandwich but on lettuce with green beans on the side) was tasty and filling. Prices were a bit on the high side, but the value was well worth it. Afterwards we strolled the waterfront and examined the information signs detailing the area’s history. A pleasant time and I’m sure we will return. FYI In addition to a fire pit area outside, there is also a huge outdoor fireplace with comfortable seating. I can imagine that evenings here are fabulous.

Anne Writes:

My husband and I dined at this restaurant July 25th to celebrate our 24th wedding anniversary. We were very pleasantly impressed with the atmosphere (restored Evers Barn 1851 in historic Olde Avon Village), menu selections, serving sizes and service.

They have an extensive (laminated!) gluten-free menu. I chose almond prawns appetizer, lobster bisque, 6 oz. steak filet with Béarnaise sauce, garlic buttered broccoli, scalloped potatoes and crème brulee for dessert. My husband had a huge steak and house pierogis. The side dishes come family style and, although they are presented for 2 servings, they could easily serve 3 to 4.

This restaurant is famous for its meats – all are of the highest quality and are aged 21 days in a vacuum seal. They were perfectly cooked and extremely tender and juicy. Our server could not have been nicer nor more efficient. We must have spent about 2 hours there slowly dining and enjoying ourselves.

Lastly, all this comes at a price (but we had a $150 gift certificate to use, so we were splurging). Even so, we will likely go back there again, perhaps for a special occasion, as the food was scrumptious and we truly enjoyed our evening (especially the gluten-free ordering ease!).

After a ‘yoga hop’ event on International Yoga Day June 21st, a group of us dined at Namaste India Garden.
Although I was the only gluten-free attendee and it was my first time there, I was duly impressed with their menu, which clearly indicated both gluten-free and vegan options.
Those options were quite extensive in both the appetizer and main entrée categories. Can’t wait to go back and sample more of their menu.
