I’ve eaten twice at The Cheesecake Factory in the last few weeks.  I had a modified chicken dish with steamed vegetables at the first visit and a veggie filled salad several days ago.  Both were delicious.  I was reassured by managers and servers that the kitchen was familiar with preparing food safely.

A nice touch at the last visit: the server brought me a plate with sliced banana when she brought bread for the table.  What a clever server!

Have you ever been offered fruit or vegetables in lieu of bread?

  1. Had dinner tonight at the Cheesecake Factory. The gluten free menu was introduced earlier this week (and I do not yet see it on their website). The multi-page listing includes appetizers, salads, burgers with GF buns, entrees and pasta. The entire back page of the menu shows GF Godiva cheesecake. The menu carries this disclaimer: “We prepared this menu for guest with sensitivities to gluten. While we strive to provide accurate information, our ingredients change from time to time, our kitchens are not gluten free and cross contact my occur. Some items may contain as much as 20 parts per million of gluten”.

HOWEVER, when I spoke with the manager he kept repeating that though they try their best cross contamination could occur. He specifically mentioned that it is best to avoid the fried foods, though said that a dedicated fryer was used for GF items. He recommended sticking with entrees or salads. I asked about the multi-slice cheesecake which is kept in the same case as all the others and served using the common utensils and was told that no other accomodation could be made and that cross contamination may occur. (I say it WILL occur).

I’m disappointed that they are making GF claims, but not being more careful in preventing cross contamination. At least they could find a way to serve their signature dessert!

So, be careful what you order from the GF menu, as it may not truly by GF.

  2. Had a delicious salad at the Cheesecake Factory this week. Bad news: I could not have any salad dressing as all are made with soy sauce (Why??????????????) Good news: The knowledgeable waiter shared that a new menu with many designated GF options is expected in about 3 weeks (crustless cheesecake?????????????????).
