Rudi’s Gluten-Free Stuffing

Rudi’s makes a Savory Herb Stuffing which is very good. I found it at Heinen’s in Brecksville. I was never one to use a  quick stuffing before I went gluten-free but, this one is really great. To make it you add boiling water and butter and let it sit for 5 minutes.  I added  boiling chicken stock in place of the water,  butter,  and added a handful of dried cranberries and it was  really good. I think you could serve it and people wouldn’t know you were using a gluten free mix.

CAP CITY DINER is located in the Columbus, Ohio area.   I was thrilled to find their extensive gluten-free menu. I was also pleased with how gluten friendly their service and waitstaff were. All sandwiches are served on a GF bun.  I think I was able to eat their french fries too. For dessert they have a GF Creme Brulee.  They also carry Redbridge Beer.

Gluten Free Menu

If you are traveling to or from the Cleveland area on I 90 passing Erie you have a gluten friendly restaurant you can stop at easily. Firebirds Restaurant is on the outside of the mall. I was very worried when our GPS sent us to the door of the food court.  It’s a very pretty restaurant with a gluten free menu and knowledgeable staff.  Their gluten-free menu is available on their website.

We ate lunch at Piada and we were excited to see a billboard in the restaurant announcing gluten-free options.  It looks like  the set up of Chipotle but very upscale and nice. We opted for the salads since they do not have gluten-free pasta or breads.  Be careful in the serving line as breadcrumbs were in one area. We asked to speak with the chef, and there is always a chef on hand. We asked for our salad items to be taken from the kitchen and not the line to avoid cross contamination. Almost all of the ingredients  were taken from the back. The chef seemed very knowledgeable about G.F. practices. The salad was great nicely tossed and containing a nice mixture not the regular bowl of lettuce with a few things on top. The serving line moves very quickly since it is designed for you to get your order and be able to return to work very quickly.

Against The Grain Baguettes and Bagels

My go to bread is the gluten-free frozen baguettes made by Against The Grain. It is frozen and if you defrost it for about 15-20 seconds you can slice off a sandwich size piece and refreeze the rest. You then toast it and it has a wonderful crust like a “real” baguette. It also worked to toast it in the morning and eat it as a sandwich at lunchtime.

Recently I tried Against The Grain Bagels and was pleased with the taste and texture which is very similar to their baguette. It’s not quite a real bagel but, really nice compared to some other gluten-free bagels and breads I’ve purchased only to be totally disappointed. These bagels are also frozen need only to be defrosted for 15 seconds and then toasted. The website for both bread products is www.againstthegraingourmet.com
