Zhug, located in the Cedar Fairmount area of Cleveland Heights, is a casual dining – urban space offering Mediterranean Mezze. Along with fancy small plates Zhug has desserts and a full bar with both mocktails, cocktails and wine options.

Small plates at Zhug include many gluten free offerings, both vegetarian and omnivore options, including: gf flatbread and dishes with beans, eggplant, olives, hummus, brussels sprouts, cauliflower, carrots, falafel, octopus, shrimp, lamb, and beef! Menu changes are seasonal so there is lots to try now and new stuff coming all the time!
This place looks good! Do you know if the kitchen takes precautions against cross contamination? For instance, is the gluten free flatbread cooked in a separate oven, or at least on a separate surface?

Chef Doug Katz and his staff are well versed in gf preparations. Of course staff can change and anything else
can change. If you are planning of giving them a try the best we can suggest is call ahead and discuss any concerns you have with them before you head out. That way you can make your best informed decision. Also, they are often packed with a waiting list so it is probably advisable that reservations be made.
Alice. The food is excellent and my daughter, who is celiac, and she has never had a problem. Chef Doug Katz had 2 ghost kitchens in 2020 that we ordered from a lot and never had a problem. There are no on the menu that have gluten – flatbread (can be order gf), white warm beans and toast points with the shrimp. I is on of ou o restaurants since there is a lot o choose from.
Also, look at Amba, another of Doug Katz’s restaurants. There is a lot of choices and he lists what is gf on the menu so there is no need to ask for a gf menu or ask a server what you can eat.
